Principle :- Malassezia is lipophilic yeast commence in areas rich in sebaceous glands of the human skin and other warm-blooded animals. Dixons’s broth is consisting of malt extract, peptone, bile desiccated, tween 40 and glycerol mono-oleate. Malt extract provide essential nutrients due to their richness and nutrient balance especially for the cultivation of fastidious microorganisms. Peptone as a source of carbon, nitrogen, vitamins and minerals. The low and acidic pH, favors growth of yeast and molds and inhibits contaminating bacteria. Since used for the isolation, cultivation and maintenance of yeast and molds. In vitro the growth of M. furfur is stimulated by natural oils or other fatty substances. Tween 40 and monooleate complex is a source of fatty acids required for the growth of M. furfur.

Use :- Recommended for primary isolation and cultivation of Malassezia furfur

Directions :- Dissolve 92.00 grams of part A in 1000 ml distilled water containing 15ml of part B, mix well and boil Dixon’s Broth to dissolve the medium completely, sterilize by autoclaving at 15 lbs. pressure (121°C) for 15 min, cool it to 42-45 °C and inoculate test sample aseptically.
