• A D2 lamp uses a tungsten filament and anode placed on opposite sides of a nickel box structure designed to produce the best output spectrum.
• Unlike an incandescent bulb, the filament is not the source of light in D2 lamps.
• Instead an arc is created from the filament to the anode, a similar process to arc lamps. Before Operation the Filament Must be Heated, it should be heated for approximately 20 seconds before use. 
• Notes for Disposing a Shimadzu Deuterium Lamp or Halogen (W) Lamps :
  • When disposing a deuterium lamp or halogen lamp, separate them from general waste and handle them as industrial waste.
  • Dispose them so that they will not pollute the environment or negatively affect human body, or ask a professional waste disposal company.
