Product Summary & Explanation :- Peptone Water is particularly suitable as a substrate in the study of indole production.
Peptone used in PW is rich in tryptophan content. Presence of indole can be demonstrated using either Kovacs or Ehlrich reagent.
Though is also utilized as a base for carbohydrate fermentation studies with the addition of sugar and indicators such as bromocresol purple, phenol red or bromothymol blue.
But it is recommended for studying the ability of an organism to ferment a specific carbohydrate which aid in differentiation of genera and species.
So it is formulated as per Shread, Donovan and Lee. PW with pH adjusted to 8.4 is suitable for the cultivation and enrichment of Vibrio species.
Instruction For Use :-
- Dissolve 15.0 grams in 1000 ml distilled water.
- Add the test carbohydrate in desired quantity and dissolve completely.
- Dispense in tubes with or without inverted Durhams tubes and sterilize by autoclaving at 15 psi pressure (121°C) for 15 minutes.
Packaging :- In pack size of 100 gm and 500 gm bottles.
Storage :- Dehydrated powder, hygroscopic in nature, store in a dry place, in tightly-sealed containers between 25-30°C and protect from direct sunlight. Under optimal conditions, the medium has a shelf life of 4 years.
When the container is opened for the first time, note the time and date on the label space provided on the container. After the desired amount of medium has been taken out replace the cap tightly to protect from hydration.
Product Deterioration :- Do not use if they show evidence of microbial contamination, discoloration, drying or any other signs of deterioration.
Disposal :- After use, prepared plates, specimen/sample containers and other contaminated materials must be sterilized before discarding.
